This is a magazine created to appeal to a small group of people, with interests in the funky/preppy b-boy look inspired by artists such as Andre 3000 and Pharrell, and art directors like Kevin Lyons, and apparel designs like Fred Perry.
The custom type shown here illustrates the meticulous attention to detail in the sophisticated funkness of the garment. By designing type that looks embroidered, or like it has a corduroy texture, or like it’s made up of patches of different materials, all point to the collected persona of the “aristo-cat” smelling like Sophista-Funk.
Graphic devices that look like bow ties & suspenders further create this atmosphere. The photography of Los Angeles in the distance paints the city we live in with a stroke of possibility. From that birds eye view we can still be class acts who speak just as well as we dress, even in a city that is so cracked, dirty, and polluted.
